The Salvation Army is an international movement. It is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Established in 1865 by William Booth in London, England. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. The Church was established in Liberia in 1988.
In addition to preaching the Gospel, the Army believes that education is the corner stone to building a nation. in this regard, the Army has established primary and secondary schools throughout Liberia. These institutions have enabled thousands of students to graduate from high school. Some of these high school graduates are yet to enter higher institutions of learning. To fulfil its mission, the Army commenced the construction of a Vocation & Technical school in 2004 which officially opened in September 2008. Over the years, the school has offered training in electricity, electronics, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, cosmetology, computers, and garment designing.
In 2010, the school applied to the National Commission on Higher Education for the accreditation to offer Associate Degrees. After a thorough vetting by the National Commission on Higher Education, the accreditation was granted in 2017. The Salvation Polytechnic (TSAP) offers Diploma and Associate of Arts/Science Degrees (AA) in areas of Building Construction, Electricity, Automative Engineering, and Electronics.
